Abstract
Objective: to discuss the gains and problems generated by the impact that autonomy - through the consent form – and its legalization have caused in the relationship between doctor and patient. Methodology: the work was carried out from a review of the literature on the doctor-patient relationship today, using both authors in the field of law and medicine, in a critical perspective. Results: the concept of autonomy does not offer enough security to serve as a fundamental element of the doctor-patient relationship. The interference of the Law in the doctor-patient relationship brings positive and other aspects that threaten the quality of the bond. Conclusion: the attention autonomy generates in Law and Bioethics does not dispense other elements of interpersonal relationships that can provide greater gains in this connection.
