Abstract

The antivaccination movement has gained worldwide strength despite the undeniable advances in vaccines in drastically reducing the incidence of contagious diseases. The causes for this breakthrough are still issues of discussion and research, but ignorance, ease of dissemination of false information, and the rise of populist policies have been implicated. The major challenge for the future will be the dichotomy between the interest of public health and individual freedoms.
