The COVID-19 pandemic in the Lusophone world: human rights perspective in Mozambican law

Abstract

The presentation of the general overview of Human Rights in Mozambique as a whole is somewhat risky and complex, firstly due to the vastness of the subject, which requires broader coverage of human rights. Secondly, we risk the possibility that some fundamental aspects that characterize Mozambique in the context of human rights may be left out of this short outline. Also, our expertise in the field of human rights, which is very specific regarding women´s rights, Health rights and the right of access to justice, reinforces our caution in addressing the subject. Therefore, despite these concerns and limited by time, the analysis will be on selected topics and in some matters, thus in some moments our reflection on the vision of human rights in Mozambique in the current context of COVID-19 will have a greater focus on these aforementioned topics. As a framework of approach, we will bring to discussion the normative framework of human rights in Mozambique, focusing on the main areas with reports of human rights violations and emphasizing the impact of COVID-19 on the realization of human rights in Mozambique.
