Abstract
Transmissible infectious diseases, in the past centuries, have already been a serious public health problem, and may be disabling and even lethal. With little knowledge about them, they were difficult to control, and after the beginning of transcontinental, terrestrial, maritime and now air travel, these diseases also moved along with the infected individuals, causing outbreaks, epidemics and pandemics. With the discovery of transmission control of infectious diseases, mainly through immunization, man has achieved greater success in disease control, even eradication. It started with the smallpox vaccine and there are currently several other types, most of them provided by SUS and others only in private companies.
