Cadernos Ibero-Americanos de Direito Sanitário (CIADS) adopt peer review as the central procedure to ensure the quality, originality, and scientific integrity of published manuscripts.
1. Preliminary Editorial Assessment
- All submitted manuscripts undergo a preliminary editorial assessment, in which suitability to the journal’s scope, compliance with Editorial Policies, and adherence to the Submission Guidelines are evaluated. This assessment is conducted within up to 15 days.
- Submissions that do not meet these criteria may be rejected at this stage.
2. Peer Review Process and Conduct
- Manuscripts approved in the preliminary assessment are submitted to double-blind peer review, preferably evaluated by two external reviewers with expertise in the thematic area.
- In accordance with the journal’s Open Science Policy, CIADS may adopt open peer review modalities, exclusively when provided for in this policy and with the explicit consent of the parties involved, formally recorded in the editorial system.
- In cases where the manuscript has previously been made available as a preprint, author anonymity cannot be guaranteed. In such situations, the review may be conducted under a single-blind peer review model or as open peer review.
- In the event of substantial disagreement between reviews, the editorial decision may involve requesting a third review or be made directly by the Editor-in-Chief, based on the received reviews and the journal’s editorial criteria.
3. Communication with Authors and Editorial Decision
- The peer review reports are forwarded to the authors for the requested revisions or for the submission of a reasoned response. The editorial office is responsible for the final decision regarding acceptance, revision, or rejection of the manuscript.
- The final editorial decision rests with the Editor-in-Chief and, when applicable, with invited editors responsible for thematic dossiers, in accordance with the journal’s editorial policies.
